Boxing Day Blues

City have not lost a match on Boxing Day since 2005, and they kept that streak alive with a nil draw.  West Brom played spoilers today and now City are still in first but only by goals.  Some interesting facts today:

Time of Possession : 73%

Shots (on Goal):  17 (4)

Corners: 9

Offsides : 2

With that much possession the team should have scored at least one goal and their were a few close ones.  One of those offside was a goal by Mario Balotelli.  The D held their own like they did the last match, but offensively things were sputtering.  I saw some beautiful passes by Nasri that went unnoticed by Balotelli and company.  Spanish Dave was his usual self trying to create but could not connect.

I would have made a few different moves, Adam Johnson should have started this match, it was a match where he could shine.  Dzeko came on too late again in the 83rd minute making his appearance less useful then it should have been.

West Brom had some nice shots by Shane Long and Paul Scharner but they couldn't net anything as well.  They did however secure a point that keeps them in the middle of the table and I am sure Roy Hodgson is happy about that.  City can be so phenomenal at times and then their own worst enemies.  Every club no matter who it is doesn't respect City because they think they have a shot at winning.  On the other hand clubs facing United seem to cave in before coming on to the pitch and allow them to have their way with them.  We need to be that team, the  one they fear before match day.

What can I say other then we have the potential to be great , but the players have to dig down deeper somewhere and grab hold of that aura.  The race has now just gotten even tighter for the league title and its time to lace those boots a bit tighter and focus on the end result.  We know it, the league knows it, Roberto most certainly preaches it and the players will do it.
